If you have heard about the fantastic tingles ASMR can give you but are feeling none, there are a couple of reasons as to why this is happening. Hopefully, you are looking at the wrong ASMR video. Or, worst-case scenario, you cannot experience ASMR at all.
ASMR, unfortunately, is not for everyone. There’s a reduced number of people who can experience the awesome tingly sensation a whisper can produce. And you might fall on either side of the fence when it comes to ASMR. If it doesn’t work for you, there’s nothing you can do about it.
But wait! It might not be the end of your ASMR experience if one video isn’t quite cutting it. When it comes to ASMR, there are countless triggers – and you have to keep looking until you find out the right one for you! If audible triggers aren’t working, try visual ones and you might have better luck. Sometimes it takes time to know what works best.
How do I know if ASMR works for me?
The only way to know if you can experience ASMR is to work your way through multiple and different videos – whether you can tingle your way into a relaxed state of mind or not can be known through trial and error alone.
If you want to know if you can experience ASMR, the best way to do it is to pick the most-watched ASMR videos there are on YouTube and see what happens when you watch them. There are plenty of videos with a couple of millions of views available for you to watch right now – you should make the best of them.
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t experience ASMR at first – even if you downright hate some videos. ASMR triggers are a matter of taste, just like food is. If certain videos aren’t for you, close that tab and choose another one – until you find the right one.
Finally, if you cannot experience ASMR no matter how many different triggers you have tried, then ASMR might not be for you. Sometimes it happens. And, sometimes, you will realize ASMR is for you, but later on in your life – have patience!
Can you lose ASMR?
Fortunately for all ASMR lovers out there, there’s no way you can lose your ability to experience ASMR – but that doesn’t mean you should abuse it. Even though you cannot lose ASMR permanently, you can develop ASMR immunity. That’ll get you off ASMR for a certain period of time!
So, you might not lose your “sense of ASMR” no matter what happens. But what if the tingles get less and less powerful through time and, no matter what you do, you cannot experience ASMR the way it once was? That’s what happens when you watch one too many ASMR videos through an extended time period.
With that in mind, don’t panic if you feel like you are losing ASMR. Take a step back, stop watching videos for a while, and let that immunity wear off. You’ll be back tingling in no time!
